Kia, Hyundai and Tik Tok oh my!

Red car driving down road - The Miller Insurance Agency

Well if you follow the news or Tik Tok, you may already be aware of the increase in Kia and Hyundai thefts using nothing more than a USB cord popularized by Tik Tok. Well, thanks to Social Media, insurance carriers are answering back and it’s not good.
Here in WA, many carriers have already put into place stricter eligibility guidelines for car insurance, with many companies discontinuing coverage for loss frequency, cracking down on unlisted drivers, no longer offering coverage for salvaged vehicles, and the list goes on and on.
This, however, is probably one of the strictest new eligibility guidelines I have seen in our 18 years and comes from Progressive Insurance, typically known as a carrier that will take any customer.  Safeco Insurance has also taken the same stance.
We have been notified that Progressive and Safeco will no longer insure all 2014 – 2021 Hyundai and Kia models. If you already are insured with them, they won’t drop your coverage, but owning one of these vehicles will make it very difficult to find other coverage options due to the ever-increasing prices here in WA.
I have also read a few other carriers may be following suit. Please keep this in mind if you are considering comparing rates or looking at placing your policies with a new agent or carrier.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us at (425)212-3505.
